Layout Manager

The layout manager shows you

A very basic overview of the layout definitions that consist of the name of the layout and the number of window definitions it contains. Selecting a layout will show you the optional description at the bottom of the layout manager. The menu contains all the functions available from the layout manager.

The layout manager tray

Clicking the close or minimize button on the layout manager's title bar will minimize the application to the tray where it will happily sit and shut up and do your bidding whenever you need it to. If you double click the tray icon it will show the layout manager (while removing the tray icon). If you access the tray icon by clicking it with the right mouse button (the right one from the left, not the right button because sometimes the right button may be the left button, if you know what I mean) it will bring up a menu from where you can exit the Windows Layout Manager, show the layout manager, or apply a layout (provided there are layouts that are enabled).

The layout manager menu items

File -> Exit

This should be obvious. If it isn't, please follow all the steps to uninstall the Windows Layout Manager, step back from the computer, and call in reinforcements and experts to assist you with any further activities that involve your computer.

Layout -> Apply

Applies the layout you have selected in the list. If you have the Show the restore dialog after applying layout option turned on in the configuration you will be prompted to undo the layout or keep the changes.

Layout -> Add

Adds a new layout by calling up the layout editor.

Layout -> Edit

Edits the layout you have selected in the list. You can also do this by just double clicking the layout in the list.

Layout -> Copy

Copies the layout you have selected in the list. Be careful if you copy a layout that has window definitions with hotkeys assigned to them because these hotkeys will also apply to the window definitions in the newly copied layout. This is by design and not a bug but you will need to pay attention to it if the multiple hotkey usage on window definitions would lead to undesired results for your configuration. If you are in doubt, remember to use the hotkey explorer.

Layout -> Remove

Denies the layout any further existence, a.k.a. removes (deletes!) the layout you have selected in the list.

Options -> Configuration

Calls up the configuration dialog for the Windows Layout Manager.

Options -> Use Defaults

Restores the configuration options to the factory default settings.

Options -> Enable Hotkeys

Allows you to enable or disable all hotkeys.

Options -> Hotkey Explorer

Sometimes you will just want to check al the hotkeys you've defined and enabled throughout the Windows Layout Manager.

Help -> Help Contents

Brings up the documentation you are reading now.

Help -> Check For Updates

Contacts the home base and checks whether there is an update for your current version.

Help -> About

Shows the version information and details of your current version.
